i am tired of hearing ‘you’re so thin’

yeah, we’ve all heard of fat-shaming. it’s a terrible thing and i hate anyone who fat shames.

many people, most people know what fat-shaming is.

but here’s the thing: why the hell doesn’t anyone know what thin/skinny shaming is? IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO KNOW.

IT IS JUST AS OFFENSIVE.

IT IS JUST AS HURTFUL.

we all know that it’s hurtful to call someone ‘fat’ or ‘over-sized’. so why don’t we realise that it’s also hurtful to call someone ‘thin’ or ‘skinny’?

i know i am thin. i know i am skinny. i am most probably underweight. and it’s okay, because i’ve accepted the fact. but it seems like no one else has. can you imagine, everywhere you go, people looking at your skinny waist? can you imagine, everywhere you go, people greeting you with ‘you’re so thin!’ instead of ‘hello, how are you?’. can you imagine, people constantly asking you if you eat?

i get all of this shit (excuse the language) all the damn time.

and it hurts.

yes i eat. i eat and eat but i don’t gain weight. yes, my mum feeds me (don’t ask dumb questions like that).

people make jokes about me being thin. i always laugh it off. but they don’t know that i’ve kept the comment they made about my body saved in my mind, so when i’m in the shower, i can look in the mirror and slowly start to despise my thin body.

i’m sure some of you are thin. and i want you all to be proud of that. don’t hate yourself because of it. love yourself no matter what size you wear ❤

bye.

  1. I admire you for putting this out there! People need to know, and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I do agree that is is just as hurtful. Don’t let them get to you, and you are completely right; you and everyone else is beautiful in every way. ❤

  2. I honestly do think that’s really sad that people are like that though. Thank you for putting this out there so that people like me can make an even harder effort not to be the kind of people that hurt others with words like that.

  3. Amen, girl!!! You are beautiful just like you are, and don’t you dare let what someone says change that! Being thin IS beautiful! I wouldn’t say I’m super skinning, as I’m currently trying to lose weight by working out every morning… but I’ve never once looked at someone and thought that because they were thin that made them less beautiful! Stay who you are!

  4. I relate to this so well because this happens to me all the time too. I know I am underweight and I am trying to gain weight. But like you, my body doesn’t let me. Nothing sticks. It bothers me so much when people just say “Wow you are so thin” instead of “How are you” or something along those lines. Finally someone understands! 🙂

  5. Well, I really admire you for putting this out there! I’m sorry that you’ve had to go through this, people can be insensitive and narrow-minded, but stay strong – you are absolutely beautiful, no matter your size ❤️ I get ‘woah, you’re so thin’ or ‘youre so skinny’ from people all the time, almost as if it’s a really good thing and they’re envious and it’s just my body shape, everyone’s different. Accept and love yourself for who you are! Great post xx
